The Portable Veblen,
Elizabeth McKenzie

This was a book I didn't know I needed. Veblen, a

30-something woman who has a great life and a doting fiancé, also has crippling anxiety that's expressed through unexpected, dry humor. Because her mother drives her nuts and she's not sure what she wants for herself, she retorts to her childhood coping mechanism – talking to squirrels.

Of course her fiancé finds out, but the hilarity of her internal monologues, her crazy convos with her mom, and the road to her wedding is a light-hearted approach to anxiety and growing pains.

Recommended for those who:

  • Have a dry sense of humor

  • Life a little family dysfunction

  • Are curious why her mother named her "Veblen"
